The American Society of Church History is a community of scholars, dedicated to studying the history of Christianity in relation to broader culture, across all time periods, locations, and cultural contexts.

2020 Winter Meeting

Our annual meeting will be held Jan. 3-6, 2020 in New York City. Register starting Oct. 1!

Who Should Join the ASCH?

Our members represent every facet of scholarship.  We welcome practitioners of all backgrounds, whether you are a professional academic, graduate student, seminarian, clergyperson, primary or secondary school teacher, or an independent scholar.

The ASCH seeks to foster a diverse and inventive community by hosting conferences, publishing Church History: Studies in Christianity and Culture, maintaining an active digital community, and sponsoring awards for excellence in scholarship.

2018 ASCH Book Prizes

The ASCH has recently announced four new winners of its most prestigious book prizes, the Philip Schaff Prize, the Albert C. Outler Prize, and the Frank S. and Elizabeth D. Brewer Prize.

TARA: Teaching and Research Archive

To advance its mission to support and promote scholarship and teaching, the ASCH has launched a new online repository: TARA, Teaching and Research Archive, and we will remain open for further submissions!  In addition to links to existing resources and projects, we accept original content for peer-review by our editorial committee.

We especially encourage projects which engage in interdisciplinary discussion, historicize theological ideas and lived religious practices, apply digital methods, and make scholarship and source material more readily available for both research and pedagogy.

ASCH Meetings

The ASCH hosts an annual meeting every January, where its members have the opportunity to present research and network with fellow scholars. The next annual meeting of the ASCH will be in New York, NY, from January 3-6, 2020
